Key facts — Bordeaux ZFE 2026
- • Bordeaux's ZFE covers "l'intra-rocade" — everything inside the A630 ring road, including the city centre and most hotels, restaurants and fuel stations
- • The A630 rocade itself is officially outside the zone — you can drive the full ring road without a sticker
- • Since 1 January 2025, only unclassified vehicles (broadly pre-1997 cars) are actually banned — Crit'Air 1 to 5 are all currently permitted
- • The restriction runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week — the same as Lyon, unlike Paris's weekday-only hours
- • No further bans are currently planned — Bordeaux Métropole will review the zone in June 2028 before deciding whether to tighten it
- • Fines: €68 for cars and vans, €135 for lorries and coaches
Bordeaux sits on almost every UK-to-Spain driving route, which makes its ZFE one of the most relevant for UK drivers even if you've never planned to stop there. The good news: its restriction is currently the narrowest of the three major French cities. The catch: the exempt ring road doesn't cover most of what you'd actually stop for.
If you need a Crit'Air sticker, you can get your Crit'Air sticker for UK delivery here — we handle the French government portal in English.
Need a Crit'Air sticker before you go?
We handle the French portal — digital certificate within 24–48 hours, physical sticker to your UK address.
What Does Bordeaux's ZFE Actually Cover?
Bordeaux's zone is defined the simplest way of the three major cities: everything inside a single ring road.
Inside the zone
Everything inside the A630 rocade — Bordeaux city centre, most hotels and restaurants, main fuel stations, shopping districts and industrial areas.
Hours: 24 hours a day, every day
The ring road itself
The A630 rocade is officially outside the ZFE perimeter. You can drive the full circuit without a Crit'Air sticker.
Confirmed via the official Bordeaux Métropole mobility portal.
The exemption is narrower than it sounds.
Most of what UK drivers actually stop for — fuel, food, accommodation — sits inside the rocade, not on it. Google Maps can also route you off the ring road through the city if there's traffic, putting you in the zone without meaning to be.
Which Vehicles Are Banned in Bordeaux in 2026?
This is where Bordeaux differs most from Paris and Lyon — the current restriction is much narrower.
Currently Allowed:
- ✓ Crit'Air 0, 1, 2
- ✓ Crit'Air 3
- ✓ Crit'Air 4 and 5 (banned in Paris and Lyon, still permitted in Bordeaux)
Banned from Bordeaux ZFE:
- ❌ Unclassified vehicles only — broadly petrol/diesel cars registered before January 1997, vans before October 1997, motorcycles before June 2000
No further bans are currently planned
Unlike Paris and Lyon, Bordeaux has not scheduled bans on Crit'Air 3, 4 or 5. The Métropole plans to review the zone's results in June 2028 before deciding whether to tighten it.
Rules can still change, so if your vehicle is Crit'Air 3 or older, check close to your travel date.

Order Now →Is the A630 Ring Road Really Exempt?
Yes — and this one checked out. We verified it directly against Bordeaux Métropole's own mobility portal rather than taking it on trust, given that the equivalent claim for Lyon's ring roads turned out to be two years out of date.
The A630 rocade is confirmed outside the ZFE perimeter.
Bordeaux Métropole's own guidance states the rocade is "en dehors du périmètre" (outside the perimeter) and remains accessible to all vehicles. This matches Paris's A86 exemption, not Lyon's M6/M7, which has been inside its zone since January 2024.
But don't treat it as a reason to skip the sticker.
The exemption only covers the ring road itself. Any exit into the city — for fuel, food, your hotel, or simply because Google Maps rerouted you — puts you inside the zone. Since most services sit inside the rocade, in practice almost every UK driver passing Bordeaux ends up needing a sticker anyway.
Displaying a sticker is also how a police check tells a compliant vehicle apart from a banned one.
What Are the Fines?
Driving in the Bordeaux ZFE without a valid sticker results in:
- €68 for cars and vans
- €135 for lorries, buses and coaches
The ban on unclassified vehicles has applied since 1 January 2025. Enforcement is by police checks, which began in July 2025. The planned automated camera enforcement has been suspended, and local reports suggest fines are not yet being issued systematically.
Because so few vehicles are actually banned, the practical risk for most UK drivers in Bordeaux itself is low today. The sticker matters more for the rest of your journey: the same one covers Paris, Lyon and every other French zone a diversion might take you into.
The restriction is 24/7, so there's no time-of-day workaround for a banned vehicle.
How Bordeaux's ZFE Differs From Paris and Lyon
Hours: Bordeaux is 24/7, same as Lyon. Paris is Monday–Friday, 8am–8pm only.
Ring road: Bordeaux's A630 is exempt, same as Paris's A86. Lyon's M6/M7 is inside the zone — not exempt.
Banned categories: Bordeaux currently bans only unclassified vehicles. Paris and Lyon both ban Crit'Air 3, 4 and 5.
Fines: Identical everywhere — €68 cars and vans, €135 lorries and coaches.
Trajectory: Bordeaux has no further restrictions scheduled, with a review due in June 2028.
BORDEAUX: ON ALMOST EVERY ROUTE TO SPAIN
Only unclassified vehicles are banned

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need Crit'Air to drive through Bordeaux on the ring road?
The A630 rocade itself is officially outside the ZFE perimeter, so transiting it doesn't require a sticker. But the moment you leave the rocade for a city-side exit — for fuel, food or your hotel — you're inside the zone. Most services near Bordeaux are inside the rocade, so keep a sticker displayed regardless.
What if I'm just visiting Bordeaux for a day?
There's no visitor exemption. Right now only unclassified vehicles (broadly pre-1997 cars) are actually banned from entering, so most UK vehicles are currently allowed in — but you're still required to display a valid Crit'Air certificate to be there legally, and the sticker is how a police check tells a compliant car from a banned one. Get the sticker before you go.
Is Bordeaux's ZFE the same as Paris's or Lyon's?
No — each differs. Bordeaux runs 24/7 like Lyon (Paris is weekdays 8am–8pm only). Bordeaux's ring road (A630) is exempt like Paris's A86 (Lyon's M6/M7 is not — it's inside the zone). And Bordeaux currently only bans unclassified vehicles, a much narrower restriction than Paris and Lyon, which both ban Crit'Air 3, 4 and 5. Fine amounts are the same everywhere: €68 for cars and vans, €135 for lorries and coaches.
When will Bordeaux ban Crit'Air 3 or higher?
No date has been set, and none is currently planned. Bordeaux Métropole's calendar contains no restriction beyond unclassified vehicles, and it plans to review the zone's results in June 2028 before deciding whether to go further. Rules can still change, so if you drive an older Crit'Air 3, 4 or 5 vehicle, check close to your travel date.
Does one Crit'Air sticker work in Bordeaux, Lyon and Paris?
Yes. A Crit'Air sticker is issued once per vehicle and is valid in every French ZFE — Bordeaux, Lyon, Paris and all the rest — for the lifetime of the vehicle.
